bored in pittsburgh - the sewerheads - diary of a priest

The band, featuring members of The Gotobeds, Empty Beings, and Rave Ami, released its debut seven-inch in late May.

A-side “Diary of a Priest”–along with its B-side, a scuzzy waltz called “Man of Finite Sorrow,” which is definitely not the song that the Soggy Bottom Boys sang into a can at WEZY–establishes The Sewerheads as a noisy, glowering force. The track stomps along ragged, its footsteps formed from drum hits that bristle with contained fury, tracking bass notes coated with storm drain slime as it advances, its hunched back strewn with tattered streamers of violin and carbonized guitar riffs that run together in blackened harmony, delivering its seedy confessions in mutters, groans, and whispers. The way the thing slouches, I wouldn’t be surprised if the diary in question belonged to Paul Hill, the tormented and ultimately vampiric (spoiler alert) priest from the show Midnight Mass. Appropriately, The Sewerheads’ debut LP is due for release this fall.
