bored in pittsburgh - mento fellini - laney

Mento Fellini’s new album, Temptation Babylon, contains nearly two hours of music.

Temptation Babylon teems with rainbows of sonic diversity. Whether he’s shredding with hairsprayed fervor, hammering out a lo-fi piano ballad, slinking around a hazy disco rhythm, or harmonizing on a euphoric hook, Mento Fellini’s Dane Adelman resembles only himself; he bends classic sounds to fit his offbeat universe, rather than the other way around. “Laney,” a power-chorded romantic plea from one misfit to another, finds Adelman donning a Big Star t-shirt and taking up residence under the bleachers with a cigarette burning in hand, imploring the titular character to recognize that, “These boys don’t really want to understand you […] They just like their football games […] These guys don’t really care that you’re an artist / They don’t care about Ingmar Bergman,” his voice animated by the type of passion we’ve all felt for that one person who nobody else truly gets. The sunny, falsetto-heavy chorus is a detonation of dopamine. The video below picks up where “Laney” begins, but I would recommend sliding the playhead back to 00:00 and going from there.
