((( ATU )))’s new release, Volatile, holds a wild array of sounds.

Volatile contains molten guitars, outrageous synth accents, multilingual lyrics, and a four-second piece called “Have An Orgasm” that features the sound of a dispensing vending machine followed by a sultry Siri voice saying, “Go ahead, have an orgasm.” Penultimate track “El Virrey del Peru,” whose title translates to “The Viceroy of Peru,” tramps along to a martial, mechanical drum beat undergirded by droning chords. While ((( ATU ))) spits defiantly in Spanish, electronic effects twitter away like a flock of colorful birds. According to Wikipedia, the first viceroy of Peru was a man named Blasco Núñez Vela. Charged by King Charles V with reigning in the excesses of the conquistadors who ran wild in South America, he ended up a prisoner for murder, then an escapee, then, finally, a casualty of a civil battle against the conquistador Gonzalo Pizzaro at Iñaquito. You could picture this song playing while the two sides clashed, vying for supremacy in a country that belonged to neither.
